Game Wrap 04-30-2010: Giants 5 Rockies 2

Barry Zito continued to pitch like an ace. Aubrey Huff's bat came alive. Edgar Renteria and Brian Wilson pulled up lame. The Giants kept pace a game back of the Padres. Key lines:

Aubrey Huff- 2 for 2, 2 BB. Huff moved down a notch in the batting order and had a key double to give the Giants a cushion.

Juan Uribe- 1 for 4. Uribe got the Giants on the board in the 4'th inning with a clutch single.

Barry Zito- 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.53. Zito is now 4-0 on the year. He won't go undefeated nor have a ERA of 1.53, but right now, having Zito on top of his game gives the Giants the best starting pitching in baseball. He's not doing it with mirrors either. He's maintaining the velocity on the FB that he found last year. He's getting better sink on the changeup, and mixes in a cutter and slider to bore in on RH hitters. All that is making his bender all the more unhittable.

Sergio Romo- 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. Huh? A lot of eyebrows went up in this one! We found out after the game that Wilson tweaked a groin in batting practice.

Jeremy Affeldt- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. Bochy will probably play the matchup game until Wilson is back.

The win puts the Giants at 13-9 to remain 1 game behind the surprising Padres who got another great game out of Clayton Richard to beat the BrewCrew 3-0. The loss here puts the Rockies at 11-12 3.5 games behind the Pads. The Dodgers staunched the bleeding with a 6-2 win over the Bucs to bring their record up to 9-14. Meanwhile, the Cubs pounded the D'Backs 11-5 who are tied with Colorado at 11-12.
