Down on the Farm: 05-05-2010

AAA Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 6-2:

Absolutely nothing of interest happened in this game. Moving on to.....

AA Altoona Curve topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2:

Thomas Neal- 2 for 4, SB(1). BA= .235.
Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(2). BA= .284.

Roger's BA is creeping up. Maybe he can get enough confidence to hit for some power too? Ross Ohlendorf, a pretty good MLB pitcher for the Pirates went the first 4 innings for Altoona in an apparent rehab assignment.

High A San Jose Giants edged the Stockton Ports 4-3:

Drew Biery- 2 for 4. BA= .283.
Charlie Culberson- 3 for 4, 2 HR(4). BA= .244.
Craig Westcott- 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.78.
Eric Stolp- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.45.
David Quinowski- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.00.
Edwin Quirarte- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K's, Save(3). ERA= 0.90.

Charlie Culberson is hitting .333 with 3 HR's and 2 doubles in his last 10 games. .450 over his last 6 games. Brandon Belt finally fails to make the highlights with just 1 hit in 4 AB's. Westcott's start not quite as crisp as his previous ones but still decent. Quirarte was the closer tonight in place of Jason Stoffel who was shelled in his last to opportunities.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Greenville Drive 6-0:

Evan Crawford- 2 for 5, SB(4). BA= .229.
Chris Dominguez- 2 for 4, SB(3). BA= .292.
Tommy Joseph- 1 for 4, HR(5). BA= .233.
Nick Liles- 2 for 4. BA= .328.
Sharlon Schoop- 2 for 4. BA= .290.
Zack Wheeler- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K's. GO/AO- 4/1. ERA= 4.50.
Ryan Verdugo- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 8.53.
Jose Casilla- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.76.

All kinds of good stuff here tonight. A dominant 5 IP from Wheeler who has gotten progressively better with each start. Evan Crawford is hitting .333 over his last 10 games and .370 over his last 8. I like what I'm seeing from Chris Dominguez this year. He appears to be staying within himself and not trying to hit everything out of the park. Tommy Joseph continues to have a nice season for his first pro experience.
