Game Wrap 04-10-2010: Braves 7 Giants 2

This was a game of lost opportunities for the Giants of offense, defense and on the mound. It was a game you had to figure they were unlikely to win: 4 game win streak. Coming off a huge emotional come from behind win the day before. #5 starter going against a pitcher who has given the Giants fits. Still, Atlanta didn't score their first run until the 6'th inning and the game was tied going to the 7'th. Then it go away as Wellemeyer ran out of gas and a tired bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, thanks in part to some shoddy fielding by the Giants. Key lines:

Giants lineup- 9 walks. The Giants hitters were patient for a change, but you've got to hit the ball too!

Aaron Rowand- 2 for 5.

Juan Uribe- 1 for 1, 3 BB.

Todd Wellemeyer- 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 4 K's. Wellemeyer pitched much better than his line makes it look. He took a shutout into the 6'th inning and a 1-1 tie into the 7'th. He probably should have come out of the game earlier in the 7'th inning but Bochy was almost surely trying to save his bullpen after yesterday's marathon. Even at that, a turned DP that was botched after Medders came in would have limited the damage. If Wellemeyer pitches this well all season, the Giants are going to be alright.

Waldis Joaquin- 1.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. A rough outing for Waldis whose own WP and shaky throw to 2B on a potential DP ball contributed to his misery.

Braves:

Jason Heyward- 3 for 3, HR(2), 2 BB. Man, is this kid a good looking ballplayer or what? Bounced back from a tough game yesterday to lead the Braves tonight. All you need is one glance at him and you can tell he is a special talent.

Around the league:

Apparently Jonathan Broxton wasn't available for the Dodgers tonight. George Sherrill blew a Save and the Choking Dogs lost to Florida 7-6. Colorado and Arizona also lost with San Diego topping the Rocks in extra innings.

CC Sabathia lost a no-no with 2 outs in the 8'th inning as the Yanks crushed the Rays 10-0.
