Down on the Farm: 04-19-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Portland Beavers 3-2:

Buster Posey- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .354.
Jesus Guzman- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .192.
Madison Bumgarner- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 10/4. ERA= 8.31.
Steve Edlefsen- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.13.
Denny Bautista- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.

Somewhat encouraging line from Bumgarner. Still not a lot of K's. Can he reinvent himself as a GB pitcher?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the New Britain Rock Cats 4-3:

Darren Ford- 2 for 3, 3B, S. BA= .231.
Brandon Crawford- 0 for 2, BB, SF. BA= .263.
Jackson Williams- 1 for 3, 3B. BA= .393.
Clay Timpner- 2 for 3. BA= .474.
Clayton Tanner- 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.81.

Nothing much to comment on here.

High A Visalia Rawhide doubled up the San Jose Giants 8-4:

Brandon Belt- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .441.
Juan Perez- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .344.
Aaron King- 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.19.

Belt continues to be the pleasant surprise so far down on the farm.
King continues to battle his control/command.

Low A Chris Dominguez hit a walkoff 3 run HR in the bottom of the 11'th inning to lead the Augusta Greenjackets to a 5-2 win over the Charleston River Dogs:

Dan Cook- 3 for 6, 2 2B. BA= .326.
Tommy Joseph- 2 for 5, BB. BA= .222.
Chris Dominguez- 1 for 5, HR(2), BB. BA= .271.
Jeremy Toole- 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.52.
Devan Kline- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00
Jason Jarvis- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Chris Gloor- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.70.

Devan Kline was a non-drafted FA sign last year. He's already appeared in 5 games, 7 IP, this year with 8 K's and a GO/AO= 2.
Nice to see Tommy Joseph's BA creeping up. Chris Dominguez had 3 K's to go with his BB and walkoff dinger. He continues to be largely an all or nothing offensive presence in the lineup.

  1. Hey DrB,

Thanks for the minor league Sumamries...Keep them coming...One point on MadBum, do you already think that Bumganrner has to totally change or reinvent himself to succeed?.....he's 20 years old and has cruised through everything..and now finally hitting a bump..Just give the kid time to be himself and fine tune everything that has made him a stud up to this point...And great news last night about him pitching in the low 90's...I also welcome the news about his not too rigorous offseason..Unfortuantely life happens and kids wil be kids (married at 20!)...Looking forward to him being back on track.

Man, if Chris Dominguez turns into a very, very pale imitation of Adam Dunn playing 3B, I'd be ecstatic.

  4. Steve,

Not saying MadBum has to reinvent himself, just noting his GO/AO and wondering. He's never been a GB pitcher up to this point. Could be just a one game statistical fluke though.

  5. Jason Jarvis should move up. Played in 23 games in AA last year, had ERA of 2.98 and WHIP of 1.3
