AAA Fresno Grizzlies survived a furious comeback by the Portland Beavers to win 7-6:
Buster Posey- 1 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .364.
Brett Pill-1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .243.
Kevin Pucetas- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.94.
Denny Bautista- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Pucetas has improved with each start. This one was typical from before his late season collapse last year.
Look for Denny Bautista to be the first callup if/when the Giants need a bullpen replacement.
AA Reading Phillies dumped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2:
Clay Timpner- 3 for 4.
Thomas Neal- 1 for 3, 2B, HBP.
Andy D'Alessio- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.
Nick Noonan- 1 for 4, 2B.
Craig Whitaker- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.00.
Not much to comment on here.
High A San Jose Giants doused the Bakersfield Blaze 6-3:
Ryan Lormand- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .387.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .317.
Brandon Belt- 1 for 1, 2 BB, HBP, SF. BA= .414.
Drew Biery- 2 for 3, HBP. BA= .462.
Wendell Fairley- 3 for 4, BA= .269.
Kyle Nicholson- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 11.57.
Belt puts up the most interesting and busy lines in the organization. This is a key season for Fairley. Let's see if this game is something to build on. Nicholson's start was a vast improvement over his first. Is Lormand any kind of a MI prospect at age 24?
Low A Tommy Joseph hit a 2 run walk off HR in the bottom of the 9'th inning to send the Charleston River Dogs on the road with a 3-1 loss:
Tommy Joseph- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .200.
Kyle Vazquez- 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 0.46.
Jose Casilla- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Chris Gloor- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.18.
Remember this is Joseph's pro debut season. He didn't get the benefit of playing Rookie ball last summer. Vazquez is probably at too low a level for his experience, but good to see him doing so well.

Yeah, Belt is pretty interesting, great start for him, if he continues to hit like this (I know, very early, but he's hitting well at home, a noted bad park for hitters to avoid strikeouts), who is blocking his way in Richmond for 1B? Nobody that I can see, Ambort and D'Alessio. Is his defense any good?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, defense at 1B is Belt's strength. If he can hit, it's all the better!
